Academy team takes to the gym ahead of cup campaign

Ulster Rugby’s Fitness Development Coach Paul Heasley has been assisting the Banbridge Academy as they prepare for this season’s Danske Bank Schools’ Cup

At the request of Head Coach, Brian Leslie, Heasley has conducted indoor gym sessions at Columbia Gym to help reduce the risk of injury and assist the physical development of the players.

He has also delivered speed sessions that focused on improving acceleration and running mechanics.

The players are being coached on how to perform exercises correctly and are following a structured plan which will see them progress as the season continues, all under the guidance of Heasley and Leslie.

Heasley has also been helping out the school’s Medallion squad, coached by Tim Baxter, and will continue to do so over the course of the season as they aim to progress to the latter stages of the Danske Bank Medallion Shield.

The Banbridge Academy players and coaches would like to thank Michael Lavery of Columbia Gym for facilitating the sessions at his premises.

The support from Heasley has been made possible due to the support of the NI Executive and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure through the ‘Promoting Equality, Tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion through Sport’ programme.
