Academy records best ever results

BANBRIDGE Academy has scored its best ever set of A-Level results, surpassing the very high standard set by the school in recent years.

“This year’s A-Level results are in every respect the best ever achieved in the Academy,” school principal Mr Raymond Pollock told the Leader on Monday. “With a pass rate of 99.7 per cent, our pupils have truly excelled as even a cursory examination of the results reveal.”

A total of 179 pupils took A-Level examinations at the Academy this year and of that number 55 students obtained three Grade As or better, with two students, Ruairi Roberts and Aislin Lenehan, gaining five A grades.

And the new A* grade, introduced for the first time this year, accounted for 15.7 per cent of the grades obtained - well above the national average of 8.1 per cent. Two pupils at the school, Numair Damani and Glenn Davidson, attained four A* grades each.

“Taken together, A* and A grades accounted for 51.7 per cent of all grades awarded and when B grades are included, 81 per cent of all grades were either A*, A or B,” added Mr Pollock, who said he was “delighted” for the hard-working pupils.

“We applaud their outstanding achievements and we wish them well as they embark on the next stage of their careers,” he said. “These results could not have been obtained without the hard work and skill of the teaching staff in the Academy whose consistent and committed professional approach has undoubtedly enabled our pupils to succeed.

Parents too are to be commended for the support and encouragement they have offered, both to the pupils and the school.”
