50-Plus group looks back on successes AGM
BANBRIDGE 50-Plus Group held their annual general meeting on Tuesday 9 February at the local leisure centre.
Chairman, Mr. Sam Clarke, welcomed everyone especially Catriona Regan Director of Community and Enterprise for Banbridge Council, who had agreed to conduct the election of officers and committee.
In his report the chairman said the group continued to thrive and had a membership of 150 with a waiting-list.
He thanked the committee members for their support over the year.
Secretary, Margaret McKee, gave a comprehensive report on the group’s programme throughout the past year.
On a weekly basis members enjoyed such activities as archery, dancing, bowls, swimming etc. Visits to the Iveagh Theatre and day trips to Londonderry and the Llamas Fair at Ballycastle were some of the events which had taken place throughout the year, and in September a five-day Holiday was arranged, some members going to the Scottish Highlands and some to Salou.
The walking group met on a regular basis with an average attendance of 30, and Robert McLorn, walk leader, arranged walks to such places as Hillsborough Park, Scarva, etc., finishing off the season with an outing to Enniskillen.
The most important news of the year was the group receiving 10,000 from ‘Awards for All’ in September; financially this was a great help towards expenses such as the Leisure Centre and tutor’s fees, to name but a few. The Treasurer gave a detailed report on the statement of accounts.
Catriona Regan conducted the election. New Office Bearers elected: Chairperson, Yvonne McKinley; Secretary, Margaret McKee and Treasurer, Wilma McCready.
