At a recent Public Services Liaison Committee it was revealed that the Transport Northern Ireland are planning to put speed limits from the Ballydrumman Road to the Backaderry Road and from the Dromara Road to the Leitrim Road.

Mr Doyle said that he would often get complaints from local residents about the volume and speed of traffic in the area in recent times.

“It is about time that there was a speed limit in Leitrim,” he said.

“This is an area where there is a shop and quite a number of houses and there never has been a speed limit.

“I would have received a few complaints about the traffic,” said Mr. Doyle.

He also pointed out there was a busy GAA club in the village which saw a lot of traffic coming and going from various events and this brought added danger if other motorists were driving too fast.

“These are straight roads through Leitrim,” he said.

“If the DoE are planning to place a speed limit then I would welcome it.”
