POLICE have uncovered drugs with an estimated street value of £1 million during a raid at a local farmhouse.
Last Thursday morning PSNI Drugs Squad officers swooped on the rural property outside Dromara for a planned search.
They uncovered a massive haul of cannabis plants during the search of outhouses.
No arrests were made.
DUP MLAs Jeffrey Donaldson and Edwin Poots are planning to meet police chiefs in the area this week to discuss the operation and press for enough resources to be deployed in the area to stop the activities of those involved in the drugs trade.
Their assistant Paul Stewart congratulated the police on the operation.
"I would like to commend the police for this successful operation which uncovered a large drugs haul ," said Mr Stewart.
"I would also appeal to anyone with any information about this to contact the police to ensure those responsible for this factory are brought before the courts.
"The DUP will be working alongside the police and the community to ensure no other factories are set-up in the area."
Mr Stewart said he had been in contact with a number of local people who are all outraged at Thursday's events.
"I have spoken to several local residents who are in a deep state of shock at this operation on their doorstep," he said.
