Revving up for another great 
Banbridge Motor and Sport Show

The event is now in its third year. Back in 2011 show was organised and promoted by Drew Gregg with a two day event at a venue out the Lurgan Road.

However, out of that event the Banbridge Motor Club was formed by a lot of car enthusiasts who were involved and assisting Drew in that show.

The club are now the organisers of the show and in 2012 they were invited by The Outlet to move the show there. It proved to be very successful and reports suggested that the show day produced the largest attendance of the year at shopping village.

Now supported by Banbridge District Council, the car show is once again using The Outlet for the 2013 event which on Sunday, August 4.

Drew joked that the organisers may have to change the title of the event in the future as it now incorporates entries from bikes, lorries and tractors.

He said, “The original concept was to have a car show of a mix of modified, classic, vintage and motorsport varieties.

“But last year we had a guy who brought two race bikes and now more bikers want to come. Then someone in the club suggested lorries so we said ‘why not?’

“Really our thinking now is, if it has an engine, wheels and is interesting then it is eligible to enter our show.”

But never fear if you are not a fan of anything on two or four wheels. There is plenty of entertainment for all of the family at the show.

Drew added, “This year we also have a stage supplied by Murdock Building Supplies where James D Huish, better known for his Michael Buble tribute act, will be performing for us.

“We have two DJs, DJ Rawkanne and DJ Oggie who will be keeping the chat and music going, talking about the cars and music.

“As well have a guy in a white racesuit coming over, who never speaks to anyone - it’s some craic interviewing him - arriving around 1pm in his Red Ferrari. He was with us last year and proved a massive hit with the kids wanting photographs.

“Our two club models, Taylor-Rae Hamilton and Lauren Gibson, will add even more glamour and class to the proceedings and we have a couple of Disney characters coming along.

“We have loads of trade stands selling all sorts of wares and as we are in The Outlet car park you have lots of shops too to have a wander around. It’s a great family day out’.

The show also has a charitable aspect to the day, as Club Secretary Joanne Magennis explained.

“One of our aims of the show is to raise funds for our two nominated charities, NI Chest Heart and Stroke Association and NI Children to Lapland Trust.

“We have a prize raffle draw on the day with some great prizes, for instance an Irish Sea return crossing for car and two people, vouchers from some nice local restaurants, lots of prizes to raise funds and a few collection boxes so we ask everybody coming to give generously.

“After all, entrance to the show for all spectators is free.

“Another of our aims of the club is to promote road safety and we have the PSNI coming with a display and a stand. We also have the Road Safety Council of NI attending with their stand as well as Tracker who will be promoting their car tagging systems.

“The third aim of our club is to promote Banbridge as a good place to visit and we certainly achieved that last year with a record attendance at The Outlet.

“This year will be even bigger as we have visitors and exhibitors coming from all parts of Northern Ireland and even ones from Dublin, Galway, Sligo, Donegal and the Midlands area.”
