Disability hub will improve access for all in Antrim

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council supported the delivery of this facility with funding from the Department for Communities Access and Inclusion Programme which promotes a more inclusive society by enabling people with disabilities to fully participate in arts, cultural and active recreation activities.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery, who launched the new service, said: “This funding has enabled Council to purchase a number of mobility scooters which are housed centrally in Antrim Castle Mall, giving visitors access to the town centre and other cultural attractions such as Antrim Castle Gardens, Old Courthouse, Pogue’s Entry and Antrim Library

“We are continually working to make our Council facilities and services more accessible for those with additional needs and this new Hub will ensure that all residents and visitors can access all that Antrim Town has to offer. We are grateful for the effective partnership working between Council and Antrim Castle Mall to successfully deliver this project.”

Gavin McBride, Department for Communities, said: “The Disability Hub provides opportunities that will help engage visitors with disabilities to visit Antrim town and provide them with confidence that facilities are available for their use.”
