Alderman Stephen Moutray asked how many people Council are considering placing on the scheme at Thursday night’s virtual meeting.

His question was addressed by Council’s Director of Performance, Sharon McNicholl.

“This is something we have been working on and the analysis is still ongoing. We expect to have made good progress on this by the end of this month,” said the Director.

“In terms of numbers, in terms of staff who would be eligible, initial calculations show over 200 people potentially, that we would be looking at in terms of a group of people.”

Later in the debate, the issue was again raised by Alderman Glenn Barr, who asked if Council was considering ensuring that no staff members loses out financially or if they will be furloughed at 80 per cent of their salary.

“The analysis that is being carried out is seeking this information for members over the next couple of weeks,” said Ms McNicholl.

“Some of these questions will be a decision for members to make. There is a broad swathe of staff that furlough can apply to and that is being worked through at present.”
