Charity offers help for women

Arubah House is opening its doors to women who are ready to move on from abusive partnerships.

The Lisburn charity is offering short to medium term housing in secure, comfortable, freshly decorated and furnished accommodation.

Charity Chairperson, Deborah Loveday said: “COVID-19 sparked a dramatic spike in homelessness caused by domestic abuse and we know that many women also feel trapped and unable to leave partners who conduct themselves in an extreme and inappropriate fashion.

“There is a tremendous need at this time to swiftly give women an alternative. Arubah House is encouraging women to act now and contact us to start a new chapter in their lives.

“I know first-hand of the impact of living in an abusive relationship and how challenging it is to step away. I also know how liberating, meaningful and uplifting life can become and I feel called to help other women to begin a new chapter.

“Arubah House makes that first step easier by providing a quality and inviting environment in which to live.”

The charity is also working in partnership with other agencies to provide a range of support initiatives to help women move forward. The PSNI revealed that there were 2 908 reported domestic abuse incidents and crimes in Lisburn and Castlereagh between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020.
