50th birthday charity cycle

When her 50th birthday plans were affected by Covid-19, Noleen O’Neill was still determined to mark the milestone and set herself a 100-mile cycle challenge to raise money for the charity that supported her dad.

Noleen O’Neill from Dromore had planned some interesting challenges in 2020 to celebrate. A keen runner, she has completed the London Marathon on a number of occasions, and an ultra-marathon had been on her 50th birthday to-do list.

With events cancelled across the globe due to the pandemic, she decided to do her own self-supported challenge - cycling 100 miles through Mourne Country to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Noleen said that it was important to do something she hadn’t done before to mark the day.

As a Neuromuscular Therapist, a coach at Banbridge Athletics Club and a member of Banbridge Cycling Club, Noleen knows only too well the importance of being fit and active for mental and physical health. When her Dad was diagnosed with cancer in late 2018, Macmillan’s Move More physical activity programme helped him through recovery.

She said: “His experience was the perfect motivation for me to complete my challenge for Macmillan.
