Pupils punished after internet fight

DROMORE High School has moved to punish two schoolgirls who were involved in a fight inside school grounds - which was then uploaded onto a popular video sharing website.

The 21-seconds long clip was brought to the Leader’s attention by a parent and when the Leader contacted school principal, John Wilkinson, he said that he knew of the incident.

“The school is well aware of what happened. The teachers intervened and the girls involved were disciplined,” he said.

The video starts off with one of the girls involved smiling before, from the side, another girl comes across and attacks her following some vocal support from onlookers.

The parent, who didn’t wish to be named, said that she felt that she came across the video purely by accident.

“I was searching for Dromore on the internet and this video came up at the top of my search. I was shocked by what I saw,” she said.

“And when the video ended it suggested that I watch another video involving two boys from the school fighting. It was filmed a while ago but the clip with the girls fighting had only been uploaded recently.

“The school does a lot of good work in and around the community but I think incidents like this, especially ones which can be seen the world over, don’t do much for the image of the school, or indeed that of the town.
