New Bridge pupils entertain Earl of Wessex

Five students entertained the Earl of Wessex who was greeted at the castle by Baroness May Blood, IEF Campaign chairperson; David Montgomery, campaign president; and Marie Cowan, chair IEF. The Minister of State for Northern Ireland, Hugo Swire, was also in attendance.

New Bridge music teacher Mrs Tracy McLean and principal Gerry Jones accompanied the students at the fundraising event which was held on 15th May.

Tara Curran and James Douglas from Year 12 played guitar, while Conor Burns of Year 10 and Matthew Dodds, Year 14, entertained the Royal guest on piano. The musical repertoire came from a wide range and included sounds from the Baroque period right through to Snow Patrol.

The pupils played for three hours without a break, but were thrilled at being part of the event and found it a rewarding and worthwhile experience according to their teacher, Mrs McLean, who also had a turn playing some traditional tunes on violin.
