Mentoring service to be put in place at Banbridge High School

THE SELB Youth Service and Banbridge High School are working in partnership to provide a mentoring service for their Year Eight and Nine students within the school.

The mentors which are Year 12 students have the responsibility with the support of the staff and youth worker within the school to ensure younger students are able to adjust to their new academic lives in secondary school.

The group of students have embarked in extensive training as part of their role and also have a key part to play in the new young person’s anti bullying policy within the school. Banbridge High School is a fantastic example of getting their pupils involved in the pastoral care of all students that attend the school.

The young people have been awarded the distinctive Millennium Volunteers Award for 50 hours volunteering with the mentoring programme. Young people are encouraged to work for the good of their community by offering certificates that could be used as proof of the hard work they have carried out.

Said a spokesperson, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the young people that give up their time to help others in the school.“
