Local schools choose Games mascot

PUPILS from St Francis’ PS Loughbrickland, Milltown PS Lenaderg and Ballydown PS Banbridge have been shortlisted in the competition to design the official mascot for the 2013 World Police and Fire Games, which will be held in Northern Ireland.

In partnership with Northern Bank, the competition was open to all primary and special schools across Northern Ireland to submit their ideas for the Mascot. The pupils’ original concept and design was shortlisted to go through to the next stage of the competition to take part in an interactive performance and illustration workshop with Cahoots NI to help bring their Mascot character to life.

One design will then be chosen as the overall winner and made into the official Mascot for the 2013 Games. The winning school will be unveiled in June this year.

The World Police & Fire Games is a global sporting event and up to 10,000 competitors plus spectators are expected when Northern Ireland hosts the Games in 2013. Firefighters, Police Officers, Prison Officers and Customs Officials are eligible to compete in over 65 sporting events. This event will showcase all that is positive about Northern Ireland and the Mascot will become a symbol of our Games.
