Donard School says thanks for Paris trip

Twenty-two pupils from Donard School, Banbridge have had a holiday of a lifetime thanks to the local community.

Students from the Castlewellan Road school took part in a four-day adventure to Paris including two amazing days at Disneyland Park.

Highlights of the trip included a special breakfast when the children met Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and many other characters. Fast rides, adventure and discovery followed with a special evening with Buffalo Bill at his Wild West Show.

The children had an amazing time and their joy, excitement and wonder made it so special for the staff and parents who attended.

Back at home, children too young or unable to travel enjoyed a Big Week of Fun which included cinema, bowling, adventure play plus fun activities and treats.

Donard School would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who made the trip possible.

Edel Lavery, Principal said: “The support of our community allowed the trip to happen. We required a lot of funding to ensure we were staffed to support individual needs but we also wanted to make sure we offered lots of treats and extra experiences. Staff, parents, friends and the community rose to the challenge. We received outstanding support especially from our business community. We collected £7,800 in loose change alone. We packed bags in Tesco, climbed mountains, held raffles and event nights. The belief and commitment of the community shown towards our pupils has touched everyone here. It is impossible to thank every single person, but the school offers a heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed in any way.”
