Digital careers event

Foyle Learning Community and Digital Derry are running their first ever ‘Digital Careers’ event tomorrow, Thursday, April 19, from 6pm to 8.30pm in the Waterfoot Hotel.

There will be a range of speakers and stalls from all the digital employers in the city and will give anyone with an interest in pursuing a career in the digital sector access to local digital companies.

Rosa Mc Laughlin, Co-ordinator for Foyle Learning Community said: “We have invited a number of educational providers and employers to speak at the event regarding study and career opportunities in the digital sector”.

Mark Nagurski from Digital Derry added: “The next generation need to know that they can build a fantastic, well-paid and extremely rewarding career in TV, or animation, or games design or even by starting their own business and that they can do all of that right here in Derry. By introducing them to people who have done exactly that, we’re hoping that this event will encourage both students and their parents to consider careers in digital media in the same way they consider other professions.”

The event is open to school pupils, their parents, teachers and the general public. The event will provide information about IT/digital/computing courses in North West Regional College, Letterkenny Institute of Technology and University of Ulster, Magee. It will also include employers who will give those present an indication of the type of qualifications needed to be considered for employment in their companies. There will also be information regarding digital careers in which there are shortages in the city and further a-field.
