Tesco Judicial Review is delayed

THE Judicial Review into Tesco’s plans for a store at Bridgewater Park has been delayed.

The review was originally scheduled to take place this week but will now not be heard until the New Year. Following the decision to give the go-ahead for planning permission for the Tesco Extra store near the Outlet earlier this year, the Northern Ireland Independent Retail and Trade applied to have the decision reviewed.

Since then there have been strong arguments from local councillors in favour of building the store at Bridgewater Park. The decision to delay the Judicial Review is understood to have been made due to technical time-tabling reasons.

In response to the delay NIIRTA Chief Executive Glyn Roberts said, “We are disappointed that the case was not able to go ahead this week as we have always wanted an early resolution of this issue.

“This type of delay is unfortunate but not unusual in these type of cases. NIIRTA looks forward to the opportunity to debate fully the legal arguments it intends to make when the Court relists the matter. As this case is currently before the court any further comment would be inappropriate.”
