Rathfriland man’s Titanic business going full steam ahead

A RATHFRILAND man selling Titanic memorabilia is finding that his products are big in Japan and beyond.

Nigel Moffett, who runs the RMSTitanic100.co.uk website with Trevor Mitchell from Bangor, has been in business for the last two years.

This year sees the 100th anniversary of the famous White Star Line ship’s sinking and as the big day approaches on April 15 the pair have never been busier.

While they report they knew that there was a worldwide interest in all things Titanic they have been overwhelmed by the interest and demand for their products.

“We’re shipping products to Australia, Japan and to every state in the US,” said Trevor.

“There’s orders coming in every day from right across the UK and Ireland so we have been kept incredibly busy.

“So far we have shipped items to 53 countries;–the interest has been unbelievable so far.

“This year has been particularly busy because of the anniversary and people are coming to us looking all sorts of items, from replica ships to the Tayto Titanic crisps.””

Trevor says that amongst his most popular are replica scale models of the famous ship and, in particular, replicas of the rivets used to hold the Titanic together.

“Titanic enthusiasts love the rivets because it’s as close as you will come to holding a piece of the ship in your hand,” he added.

“There has been so much talk over the years about the rivets used to build the Titanic that this has certainly created a huge interest from people across the globe wanting to see and own one.

“They come complete on a display stand and with a souvenir booklet with illustrations explaining how they were used in the building of RMS Titanic.

“The scale replicas of the Titanic have been very popular as well and we sell those in 100cm, 80cm and 60cm models. They have been done in very fine detail and look lovely.”
