Information event on Rathfriland Fire Station proposed rebuild

THE public is invited to an information session ahead of the opening of the newly refurbished and extended Rathfriland Fire Station.

The station was badly damaged when a fire broke out in August 2009 building work is set to begin on the new station soon, with the opening scheduled for April 2012.

Newry District Commander Brian Greer said the information evening later this month will be an opportunity for local people to find out more about their refurbished fire station.

“We recently received Business Case Approval for the rebuild of Rathfriland Fire Station and we have submitted the Plans to the relevant Planning Office,” said Mr Greer. “Once that process is complete it would be our intention to commence building work in the coming months and for the station to be complete and fully operational by April 2012.

“We are holding a short Information Session for the local community at the Fire Station to show them the plans for the station and to talk about the building work.

“The rebuild at Rathfriland Fire Station is good news, not only for Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and our Firefighters based at Rathfriland Station but also for the residents living close to the Station and indeed the wider Rathfriland community.

“We look forward to welcoming people to the Information Session.”

The event will take place on Thursday April 21 between 7pm and 8pm. Light refreshments will also be served.
