Former bank building up for sale

THE former Northern Bank in Rathfriland’s Church Square is now on the market.

The branch closed in November last year, “in response to changing consumer banking habits, and advancements in technology and in the industry”, according to bank officials, and merged with the Banbridge base in Bridge Street.

The listed building, which is now on the market for £275,000 is described as occupying a prominent location in the town. Selling Agents Osborne King also say on their website: “The site includes a bank building, concrete yard which can accommodate approximately four vehicles and a substantial rear garden area. The bank building is an architecturally striking listed three-storey property which we understand was constructed in c.1860.

“The subject is of traditional red brick construction with the roof over

pitched and slated with dormer windows projecting directly onto Church Square. Internally the accommodation provides the main banking hall at ground floor with the former living area located at first and second floor level.”
