First aid training for local groups

IN the latest in its series of training sessions organised for community organisations in the district, Banbridge District Council is offering local groups the opportunity to take part in basic first aid training.

Delivered by Bluelight Medical, the training will take place over the course of four Monday evenings on the following dates: 7, 14 and 28 November and 5 December. The training will be held at Banbridge Enterprise Centre and start at 7pm each evening.

With community groups taking part in a varied range of activities involving their members and the general public, it is vital that groups have appropriately trained individuals on hand should an emergency arise. This course will cover a variety of emergency situations including how to deal with a heart attack, bleeding, fractures and shock.

The council’s Community Development Officer Robert Stockley stressed the importance of such training, stating: “Groups never know when they might be confronted with a situation that would require first aid. Having someone who has been trained could literally mean the difference between life and death. This is a great opportunity for local groups to ensure they have the skills to deal with these difficult situations.”

With demand for the workshop expected to be high, bookings will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. A maximum of two places can be booked per group in the first instance although additional names can be put on a reserve list.

To book a place, contact the council’s Community and Enterprise Department on 4066 0605.
