Advice on digital switchover

‘The Switchover Help Scheme’ has been set up by the BBC to offer practical help for some viewers who may face extra hurdles in switching to digital television and organisers have set up an information roadshow on the topic at Tesco, Craigavon, on Wednesday, August 8.

Television is switching to digital all over the UK and in October the traditional TV signal will be switched off in Northern Ireland.

Anyone who doesn’t have digital TV by this time will lose their television channels.

Nigel Tilson, manager for the scheme, said, “We are urging people to drop in and speak to our team face-to-face and they can also try out digital equipment first-hand, access help with filling out application forms and ask the team any questions.

“We can help anyone who is 75 and over or who is registered disabled.”

Most people will be asked to contribute £40 towards the help, although the service is free for those who get pension credit, income-related employment and support allowance (ESA(IR)), income support or income-based jobseeker’s allowance.
