Update on the Nomadic at Historical Society meeting

EVERYONE has heard of the Titanic but not all have heard of the SS Nomadic which was built by Harland and Wolff at around the same time.

This ship was constructed especially to transfer first and second class passengers from the quayside at Cherbourg out to the Titanic as this ship was too large to berth alongside the harbour.

The SS Nomadic, which is believed to be the last White Star ship in the world, has been back in Belfast now for several years undergoing refurbishment at the Queen’s Island and is nearing completion.

One of the chief movers behind the restoration being made to this ship, Mr David Young, will present an illustrated address on the progress at the next meeting of Banbridge Historical Society. This will be held in the Public Library, Scarva Street, on Thursday May 3 commencing at 7.15pm and visitors are welcome.

Please note that the Annual General Meeting will take place just prior to Mr Young’s address.
