Triúr to perform on Saturday

Traditional music group Triúr will perform at Cultúrlann on Saturday, November 23, where their gig will kick start the campaign to renovate the old Third Derry Presbyterian Church on Great James Street.

With a new album hot off the press, Triúr is dedicated to the idea of protecting the uniqueness of our communities. Formed in 2009, the group features the combined talents of Martin Hayes, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Peadar Ó Riada.

Martin and Caoimhín are well known and admired, internationally. Indeed Martin has been the gateway to many a person’s introduction to Irish music around the world. Caoimhín is well known for his ever-searching creative collaborations with other international artists.

Peadar has been creating music from his Cúil Aodha home since his father Seán Ó Riada died in 1971. All three play in other groups and combinations. “We always play new material and continue to stretch ourselves musically in this group”. Due to the demands of individual touring and working, their time together is limited.

“In our new album, we decided to honor and pay homage to some of our disappearing voices by choosing to emphasize some local styles in music, some of our favorite composers of Irish music and some unique musicians themselves.

This album has 20 newly composed tunes spread over 14 tracks but we have also chosen to remember history. We are delighted to be able to come to Derry to showcase our music and to help in a small way in preserving a wonderful old Presbyterian Church in Great James Street”

Tickets for Triúr are available from Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin and online at www.culturlann-doire.ie
