Johnny Marr returns with solo debut
Johnny Marr’s latest single ‘New Town Velocity‘ is out on Monday.
The song is from the former Smiths’ guitarist’s debut solo album ‘The Messenger‘, released in February.
The album carries a familiar Manchester sound, more New Order than The Smiths. Marr’s trademark ‘jangly’ guitar sound is instantly recognisable, but surprisingly is kept to a minimum.
The title track is a highlight, surpassed by ‘Say Demesne’. ‘The Messenger’ is a strong offering from a music icon.
