Stole item from shop

A 33 year old Banbridge man who stole a jar of athletic performance enhancer Creatine from a local shop, appeared before the town’s court last week.

Darren Mackin from Burnview Terrace was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation of £35.95 - the value of the stolen item.

The court heard how on 20 April two males entered Holland and Barratt at the Outlet.

They emphasised to the shop assistant that they wanted a cheap deal on the Creatine.

The shop assistant then heard one of them say “put it in the bag.” They paid for some items and left the store.

Police caught up with Mackin at the town’s Social Security Office and searched his bags. They found the item in question. Mackin said he had purchased some items but didn’t know how the Creatine had got there.

He said he was on medication and it could have affected his memory.

Barrister Mr Byrne said his client had cash on him and never intended to leave the store with this item.

District Judge Mr Copeland said he would give Mackin credit for his early plea and clear record.

However he told him he had crossed the line of dishonesty when he left the shop without paying for the goods.
