Out to Lunch a tasty treat

Out to Lunch - the bespoke, boutique winter festival which warms the cockles and reaches the parts other festivals can’t – returns from 2-25 January 2015.

This will be Out to Lunch’s 10th wholesome helping of music, comedy, literature and drama, and it boasts a delicious line-up that’s set to banish the post-festive blues with affordable lunchtime performances (including a free lunch) plus an array of evening shows.

Highlights across the month long festival include the Edinburgh smash shows Cutting off Kate Bush and Austentatious and comedy from Robin Ince, Tom Stade, John Shuttleworth and Tony Law. Reformed post punk legends Nine Below Zero take to the Out to Lunch stage for a scintillating evening of maximum R‘n’B. Martin Stephenson and the Daintees are reunited for a very special Out to Lunch performance – possibly one of the early highlights of OTL.

The deliciously cynical country blues of the Hank Wangford Four, the sound-scaping DJ extraordinaire Mr Scruff, the quietly breath-taking genius of King Creosote, the beatboxing genius of Shlomo and stone-cold soul legend Booker T Jones also grace the deliciously eclectic musical line-up.

The Songs and life of Edith Piaf will be celebrated by modern-day chanteuse Christine Bovill.

Mercury Music Prize Winners Young Fathers also make their Irish debut at Out to Lunch. There will also be an evening of musical celebration for the late, great Gerry Anderson.

Award-winning poet Simon Armitage, columnist and author of Chavs and The Establishment Owen Jones will be in discussion.

Everyone’s favourite restaurant critic Jay Rayner will be reading from My Dining Hell, twice booker-prize nominated Irish author Patrick McCabe will join songwriter/ storyteller Colum Sands for Songs and Novels from a Two Storey Bungalow. Former Slits guitarist and punk luminary Viv Albertine will be reliving the highs and lows from her acclaimed recent memoir Clothes Clothes Clothes, Music Music Music, Boys Boys Boys.

Out to Lunch is also hugely proud to present premier screenings from two of our very favourite musical artists.

The hotly anticipated Nowhere is Home captures Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival stars of 2013, Dexys, as they performed over the final nights of their residency at the Duke of York’s Theatre last spring.

The Possibilities are Endless is the incredible, elegiac story of singer/ songwriter Edwyn Collins, tracing his life as he embarks on a remarkable journey from the brink of death back to language, life, music and love.
