Mini Twelfth to be bigger and better

Local organiser Edward Hanna hoped that this year will be even more successful than previous years.

“We hope that the local community will come out and support the event,” he said. “We have engaged a number new bands to entertain those in attendance this year as well as welcoming back everybody’s favourite, Aughnaskeagh Silver Band, to lead both the parade and the music in the Square.

“With the re-opening of the Square happening this week it is fitting that the Orange District would be one of the first organisations to utilise the space, given the historic ties the local community has shared with the Orange Order over the years.”

Local District Master Maurice Coburn was also looking forward to an enjoyable evening. “The people of Dromore have always been very supportive of the event and I encourage as many people as possible to come along and share in fellowship with us as we dedicate the opening of the Arch.

“There will also be fun and games for the kids, including face painting, as well as tea and buns for all those in attendance.”

The Mini 12th event is the beginning of the annual calendar of events which marks the historic celebrations associated with the Battle of the Boyne.

The District will also host its Annual Church Service in Dromore Free Presbyterian Church on Sunday July 8 at 3pm, everybody welcome.

Tuesday July 10 will see the Lower Iveagh Cultural and Heritage Group host its annual family fun night and beacon lighting ceremony at Dromore Leisure Centre, beginning from 6.30pm.
