Manager of the LPS, Réamaí Mathers said “our work, which is just finishing its first year, has begun to deliver on a wide range of projects from biodiversity, to farming, to tourism, traditional crafts, archaeology and more. Our purpose is to facilitate local people and visitors alike to connect more deeply with this stunning landscape and its amazing people.

“What makes a place like The Glens of Antrim special is the diversity of its culture, heritage and landscape. We are delighted to be launching our website, which will showcase this area and the projects we are developing with local communities.”

One such development has been the local music leaflet which showcases the traditional sounds and dances of the area. This leaflet will be distributed to tourism offices, B&Bs, libraries, hotels and many other venues. We are keen that tourists and local people alike become more aware of the wealth of musical talent that exists here, and maybe even take part.

Traditional music is like social glue that provides an important creative and social outlet in this rural community. Instruments are played by the very young to the not so young all in one session. It is a unique and welcoming tradition, something that tourists are always seeking, which will now be easier to find. Something that will further enhance the reputation of The Glens as a centre for culture and a welcoming community comfortable with itself and its wealth of heritage riches.

Bob Brown from the Heritage Lottery Fund NI Committee added their support: “HLF were delighted to fund the ambitious Heart of the Glens Landscape Partnership. It’s great to see the projects starting to happen on the ground. The Glens of Antrim have a fantastic landscapes but it is also the cultural and social heritage that helps shape the local sense of place.

“Our Landscape Partnership schemes aim to harness that wealth of heritage to protect and promote the amazing landscape of Northern Ireland for current and future generations.”

The Launch of the website took place in The Glens Hotel, on Wednesday.
