She has organised a number of beginners’ sewing and patchwork one-day workshops to be held in Lurgan Park on two Saturdays in May - with a view to following up these workshops with weekly classes over the Summer and Autumn evenings.

The first of these workshops (May 17) - ‘An Introduction to Machine Sewing’, is ideal for the beginner who has either just bought a sewing machine and needs help in getting started on some simple sewing projects or is ideal for those who would love to refresh long-forgotten sewing skills. Participants will learn all the basics needed to get started on making unique fabric projects and will complete a simple sewing project in the one day workshop.

Following that, a second workshop will be held – “Beginners Patchwork and Quilting Projects’, (May 31), which is ideal for those who want to learn to use a sewing machine to make beautiful patchwork and quilting projects. Depending on the level of experience, participants will either complete a patchwork cushion (beginners) or a small quilt (for those with some sewing / patchwork experience) in one day.

The workshops and evening classes will be hosted by Blue Thimble Crafts who have hosted workshops and demonstrations at craft taster sessions in Lurgan Town Hall and Ashgrove Community Centre in Portadown. They have also recently helped Scotch Street Youth Centre develop their own quilted banner and are currently involved in developing quilted banners with a number of community groups in and around the Lurgan area. They are also known for their quirky animal doorstops, cushions and other fabric creations which are ideal for gifts for friends and family.
