Game of Thrones filming to return

POPULAR HBO TV series, Game of Thrones, is to return to The Linen Mill Studios, Banbridge.

The news comes after confirmation that filming of the fourth series of the show was to take place in Northern Ireland.

HBO began to use the Banbridge former linen bleach works in early 2011 for series two of Game of Thrones. The Linen Mill Studios was established on the back of that and the facility has attracted a number of other smaller productions since.

It’s been a busy time for the Ballievey facility, according to Robert Wilson from the Linen Mill Studios.

“We’ve just in January finished filming a history series called ‘A Time Travellers Guide to Elizabethan England’, in which, when it’s screened later this month the sharp eyed amongst you might spot a local stone bridge near Corbet.

“It was filmed in our new STAGE 5 which we opened in January 13 and which is designed to accommodate smaller, more intimate sets and green screen filming.

“We are delighted Game of Thrones is such a success. We are thrilled they are filming a fourth series and that they have chosen our studios once again. The Linen Mill Studios offers an attractive combination of privacy, security and quiet but also vast sheds and generous backlot.

“Film-makers can have interior and exterior filming sets in close proximity, when the weather changes they can quickly move inside and keep shooting.

“It is important that we provide all our clients with a very positive experience, but that is true also of local suppliers, hire companies, restaurants, transport companies, etc. all have a part to play in productions like ‘Game of Thrones’ coming back next year and after that. “

Mr Wilson also took time to thank those who live close-by.

“Our residential neighbours and the local farmers have been terrific, they have endured some night filming and some early morning traffic, helicopters landing, and have even moved silage cutting to accommodate filming. That level of support speaks volumes about the people of Banbridge district.
