Dromore street-art project to explore policing/safety issues

Dromore Youth for Christ have secured funding for a street art project exploring policing and community safety issues with young people .

YFC was one of four organisations who submitted successful applications to Banbridge Policing and Community Safety Partnership to run local projects aimed at tackling policing and community safety issues.

The group was awarded £940 after Banbridge PCSP launched an open call for applications to its Small Grants Scheme in May this year.

Its project, ‘Artistic Impressions of Community Values’ is a street art project which will be used as a means of discussing and exploring policing and community safety issues with the young people involved .

Banbridge PCSP Vice Chair Jonathan Murphy said, “Youth for Christ have been running youth projects in Dromore for over 10 years and have built up a good relationship with young people. “

A number of young people were brought together to create the art pieces. The project started with a discussion session with the young people so they could decide on a theme exploring community values and discuss those values as well as other issues relevant to young people in Dromore. They also took the lead in planning and designing the artwork.

The art will be used not only to decorate the new Youth for Christ drop-in centre in Dromore in a way that will hopefully inspire young people and their values, but will also be used as a focal point for discussions with young people about community safety issues for years to come, either in the drop-in centre or in local schools.
