Curtain goes up for workshops

Banbridge District Council are presenting the workshops in conjunction with Cinemagic as part of the festival, which runs from September 14-20.

Claire Shaw, Press and Marketing Officer at Cinemagic said, “Cinemagic will provide young people with the opportunity to participate in two hands on film workshops as part of Banbridge Film Fest.

“Aimed at introducing young people to the different forms of film making including the mechanics of stop-motion animation, participants will be guided through the process of making a short animated piece.

“We will also offer an insight to short film development from concept to screen and everything in between!”

The first workshop, entitled ‘Stop-Motion Animation’, will take place on Saturday, September 14 from 10am–3pm at the FE McWilliam Gallery and Studio.

All 7–11 years olds are invited to sign up for this introduction to the art of creating stop-motion animation. Participants will make a short animated film which will involve character design and modelling, scripting and creating and adding sound effects. The workshop costs £5 per child.

On Tuesday, September 17 from 6-9pm at Banbridge Old Town Hall there will be a film-making workshop for 12–16 year olds. Here they can experience the A-Z of filmmaking in a practical hands on session.

Participants will work with a professional filmmaker who will talk about the mechanics of short-film production from concept, to story development, camera technique, shooting and editing. Places cost £3 and can be booked by contacting Banbridge District Council on 406 60605.

The final workshop, Shadow Worlds, will take place on Friday, September 20 at Banbridge Old Town Hall from 9.30am–3pm.
