Charity cash round-up

Members and friends of the Society gathered for the event at Dromore Rugby Club, where they learned the total amount they had raised for charity over the last decade.

The treasurer reported that the DSNI presentation took to more than £16,000 the total raised for a range of charities by the Society and its friends over the last 10 years.

Highlight of the evening was the cheque presentation itself, Society Chairman Alan Pepper handing over the proceeds of this year’s trials and the takings from a ballot and auction after the dinner.

There to pick up the cheque was DSNI president Janet Gray MBE.

Janet, who lost her sight at the age of 21, explained how the charity was of tremendous help to her as she pursued her sport and went on to become a world champion water-skier.

She thanked everyone for their generosity.

A spokesman for the society had earlier welcomed all present, thanking Mr and Mrs David Ervin for the use of their land and Mr Derek McMillan for supplying the sheep at the June trials.

Thanks also went to the sponsors, those who placed adverts in the trials programme, to Mrs Fee, for all her work behind the scenes, to Dromore Rugby Club, for the use of its premises and to all who gave donations or helped in any way.

The assembled members and guests are said to have thoroughly enjoyed the event, where dancing was to the music of BB Paul.
