Celebrating 35 years of music

COOKSTOWN Sons of William FB will be hosting their thirty-fifth Anniversary concert in the Burnavon Arts and Cultural Centre on Saturday March 24 starting at 8pm sharp.

In the past few years the band has strived to attract some of the top bands in the country and this year’s line-up promises another fantastic night of entertainment. All the acts appearing on stage are widely respected in their respective genres. The evening will be compered by Kenny Archer.

Cookstown Sons of William FB will open the concert on the night - the band will be performing a few off their new pieces which includes a couple of brand new compositions exclusive to the band.

One of these compositions was written especially for an event which saw the band become the first ever marching band in Northern Ireland to be named Official Associate Endorsers of the Premier Percussion Brand.

Roughan Silver Band will be the next band on stage. this band was formed in 1904; they are based between Ballygawley and Augher. They are regular competitors at the Northern Ireland Bands Association (NIBA) championship. The band has won Grade Four twice, before successfully stepping up to Grade Three. They won this grade on five occasions, with the last success in 2006. The band currently is competing in Grade two of the NIBA, having moved up from Grade three in 2008.They are regularly placed in the top three at other competitions.

Maiden City Beat will be the last act to appear on the stage before the interval. This five-piece group was formed in June 2008. The initial idea was only to form for one event out of necessity, but such was their initial popularity, the band now regularly plays throughout Northern Ireland, they also have performed at many high profile Ulster-Scots events. The band plays a wide-ranging repertoire covering everything from traditional Ulster-Scots, traditional Irish, traditional Scots, as well as popular hits from the 70s to present day, putting their own modern twist to each piece of music.

UVF Regimental Band will be the first band to perform after the interval, the band was formed in 1969 as a blood and thunder band, in 1989 the decision was taken to transform the band to a more military Melody style. This decision has been vindicated as they are now considered one of the countrys finest Marching bands, the band has been honoured and priveleged to perform at the Somme twice and have also attended many parades across the UK with London being one off many highlights.

Dunloy Accordion Band will be the last band to appear on stage on the night, this will close a night of top quality music. The band was founded in 1956 and is now considered by many to be Ulster’s top marching band. This band has successfully competed both outdoor and indoor throughout Northern Ireland and Great Britain. The band has won four All-Ireland titles and one National Accordion British Advanced Orchestra championship; it has also had the privilege of taking part in the Lord Mayors parade in London and has also played in Vanves France.
