Annual adventure for Dromore cadet

The traditional highlight of the Cadet year, the camp sees the teenagers stretched and entertained for one week, with what a spokesperson described as “a demanding programme of outdoor adventure, sporting challenge and good craic”.

Adam - or Cadet Warrant Officer Adam Kelly of the Banbridge Army Cadet Force Detachment - has been a Cadet for five years.

“In my current role,” he said, “I now have more responsibility at Annual Camp and during the year too – with more to organise and responsibilities of ensuring that the junior cadets are in the right place at the right times and with all the equipment they need.

“Before I joined the Cadets I would have been quite shy. Now I am happy to be in front of the Cadets or anyone else and tell them what I would like them to do. I’ve also made many good friends.

“The skills I have picked up will be useful in life, I think, particularly the organisational skills, the ability to work with others and the discipline to keep at a job until it’s done.”
