In a bid to raise awareness of its aims, opportunities and plans for the year ahead, an Information and Recruitment Night is being held in the ENP Youth Centre, Rathfriland Street, on Monday, October 24 at 7pm to which all interested are welcome.

Banbridge District Youth Council is a group of young people who meet weekly on Monday nights in the ENP to discuss and address issues in the local area.

They recently held their first meeting of the year when members decided on Office Bearer roles for the incoming year.

Congratulations have been extended to the successful members - Victoria Geoghegan on becoming the new Chairperson, Christian Ford becoming Vice Chairperson, Eloise Sellwood becoming Secretary, and Molly Butler and Katie McKenna who will be teaming for PR.

A spokesperson for the youth body said: “We sadly say goodbye to our Peer Educator, Ciarán McCartan, who has been with the youth council for close to seven years, it’s a shame to see him go but we all wish him the best of luck in the future.

“We are currently recruiting new members, so any young people interested are asked to look up our Facebook page and get in contact with us.”

The spokesperson added: “It’s a great opportunity to expand your local awareness and get involved within the community, you can also receive recognition through the Millennium Volunteer programme and boost your CV at the same time.

“As we move forward with a new year and new projects, we as a collective group, are very eager to reassess what our peers want for our community and to address this to the best of our ability.

“We aim to make this year jam packed and full of exciting new opportunities,” added the Youth Council’s spokesperson who urged any local young people interested in finding out more or in joining to attend the information and recruitment night on October 24 in ENP.
