Young Dromore side take on Malone

DROMORE U17s started their 2012-2013 season with a friendly game at Barban Hill against a large Malone U17s side.

This season Dromore have elected to play their young side in the U17 age group and gave away a lot of ground in the size stakes.

Malone used their size in the pack to try and dominate the contact area however

But Dromore were up for the physical encounter and with three minutes gone Malone moved the ball into the backs only to have Dromore centre Adam Reaney intercept the pass on the 22 and run the ball under the posts. This try was converted by number 8 Ross Bingham who had a storming game and dominated the line outs with some outstanding jumping and great hands.

Dromore’s hard work in the pack was complemented by some sparkling play from the newly reshuffled backs. Adam McDonald, at out half, moved a ball left drew the defence and passed for Adam Reaney to score in the corner.

After some good rucking Dromore got a penalty, Joshua Brame moved the ball into open space and McDonald passed to Ryan Hughes who ran from his own 10 metre line, skipping through Malone tackles and outrunning the wing and full back for a well deserved score.

With the home crowd behind Dromore Patrick Wright showed great hands drew the defence and put Ross Bingham in on the left.

The second half showed a more aggressive Malone side who began to control possession and drove the ball close and began to make Dromore look ragged.

David Pyper who played in three positions on the day put his body on the line on several occasions tackling his heart out for his team mates.

Malone scored two tries despite some spirited defence. Dromore rallied and moved the ball again into the backs, some fine kicking out of hand by McDonald followed up by the outside backs resulted in tries for Reaney and McDonald.

Big second-row Wright showed up again in the loose forward area and picked a ball on the Malone 22 crashing through the defence to score an excellent individual try.

Two more tries by Reaney were set up by excellent forward play from Chris Tinsley, Scott Rogers, Matt McMaster, Matt Davis ,Kurtis Bann and Simon Henshaw.

Dromore backs also worth mentioning are Marcus Heath, Ashley Boyd, Jonny Creighton and Stewart Houston.
