Whites penalty drama

RATHFRILAND Rangers hosted Bloomfield in the first round of the Clarence Cup on Saturday taking extra time and penalties to separate the two teams.

With a team missing a number of regulars, Rathfriland went into a 3 – 1 half time lead with Adrian Megaw scoring a great long range effort, Ally Beck and Michael Green getting on the end of the other two while the visitors replied with a penalty to give them some half time hope.

On the restart their belief was evident and scored two more goals taking the game into extra time although the Bloomfield `keeper kept out a number of Rathfriland attacks most noticeably from Ally Beck and Ally Wilson.

After 10 penalties it finished 5–4 to Rathfriland who scored all five leaving the Bloomfield to miss their last kick.

Overall a typical game after the hype of the Border Cup final but in the end Rathfrlland showed great character to keep going and get over the finishing line.
