West Down Zone’s talented bowls team has progressed to the semi-final of the men’s shield competition with an impressive 28 shot victory over Cork at Loughbrickland Presbyterian Hall.
After what has to be said was a sluggish start by West Down Zone, the locals began to dominate and despite some spirted resistance from the visiting Cork side, West Down established an 18 shot lead after the first run of the mats.
This should have a winning advantage and so it proved with all three second half rinks finishing in the ascendancy. The team now travel to South Tyrone for the semi-final with a further step up in performance required.
Further details of the venue ahead of that much-anticipated semi-final match will be published in next week’s ‘LEADER.’
