U12s beat Comrades for semi spot

Banbridge Town U12s 1

Ballyclare Comrades 0

HOLDERS Banbridge Town U12s progressed to the semi-final of the cup by defeating Ballyclare in a pulsating match at Lisburn.

Ballyclare have conceded few goals all season and Banbridge were made to work hard for their victory.

Both sides settled quickly into their rhythm, but it was Banbridge who created the better chances. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when striker Aaron Thompson burst through and unleashed a rasping shot from 25 yards that gave the keeper no chance as it sailed high into the net.

This was a goal worthy of winning any game and it proved to be decisive on the day. Andrew Wilson had further strikes on goal as Banbridge finished the half strongly.

After the interval both sides continued to played flowing football but it was Banbridge who seemed to have the cutting edge. Town keeper Stuart Wilson had few actual saves to make but deal well with threatening balls into the box.

Kyle Thompson had an effective game on the right flank, linking play and crossing well. Banbridge pressed for a second goal that would have sealed the game and came closest through Brian Johnston when he headed just over.

Ballyclare almost snatched an equaliser in the dying minutes when a deflected corner was cleared by Ross Fitzpatrick from close range.

Team: Callum Adamson, Scott Armstrong, Neil Cherry, Daniel Devlin, Ross Fitzpatrick, Brian Johnston, Peter Maxwell, Daire McCluskey, Stephen McKey, Ryan Stevenson, Aaron Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Andrew Wilson, Stuart Wilson.
