U12s see off Moira at Cheney

SLANE U12s played Moria in their first preseason game at 11 a side at Cheney Park, Banbridge last week.

It was a great end to end entertaining run out for the young Slane side.

Slane started the game slowly on the big pitch looking nervous and were under pressure and Moria took an early lead when Slane failed to clear the loose ball and the Moria striker finished well.

Slane found themselves two down when a shot hit the cross bar and Moria reacted quickest and once again slotted the ball into the net.

The locals started to find their feet after a reshuffle and worked hard to get back into the game and were rewarded when Hayes and Moorhead combined to find Banks whose shot found the top corner to make it 2-1 for a fantastic goal.

Slane continued to pass the ball about with great panache and were building confidence and just before half time they found themselves level when Megaw found Davis and his first time shot hit the post and hit the Moria keeper and went into the net

As the second half got underway Slane kept the pressure on and we’re unlucky not to take the lead with shots from Hayes, Moorhead and Megaw were well saved by the keeper, Slane were careless in defence with a lapse of concentration and the Moria attacker found himself one on one with Richie in the Slane nets and he chipped the keeper and found the back off the net.

After the restart the Slane midfield took control and with some great link up play with Davis up front, Hayes slipped to ball though to Davis and he sent a powerful shot between the keepers leg to make it 3-3.

Again both teams were going for the win and after some fine saves from Richie in the Slane nets, Megaw raced forward with the ball from defence and he found Hayes whose pass found Davis and after a lot of twisting and turning his shot sailed into the top corner to make it 4-3 to Slane in the dying minutes.

Moira tried to get back into the game but Clydesdale and Martin in the Slane defence cleared every ball that came near them.

Man of the match - Jordan Davis

This was a great game between the two teams with Slane deserving the win and a great start to 11 a side football and it was encouraging for the management staff and coaches on the night to see how they will shape up for next season on the bigger pitch.
