ON Saturday March 26 Dromore Ladies Thirds travelled to Ballymoney to play in the Junior Cup semi-final.
Even though the club’s Thirds have featured in finals for the last three years they were taking nothing for granted and were determined to make their visit to the Joey Dunlop Centre worthwhile.
The match started well for Dromore who quickly settled into position and it wasn’t long before a Hannah Lilburn pass found Chloe Glover who went one on one with the keeper and hit the back of the net.
Some skilful play by Nicola Annet and Rachel Campbell ensured that the Ballymoney defence were kept very busy, but despite prolonged pressure the front three of Anna Clarke, Ruth Ravey and Chloe Glover could not breach the defence.
Dromore allowed themselves to be put under pressure at the beginning of the second half but the back four of Janine Davis, Claire Elliott, Cathy Wilson and Lyndey Bowers defended stoically and kept Ballymoney at bay with Chrissie Winson making some crucial saves.
A clearance was picked up by Julie Anderson who made a superb forward pass to Chloe Glover who once again found herself with one player to beat and lost no time in slotting the ball home. Ballymoney rallied and after a number of short corners their pressure paid off and theyfound the back of the net.
Relentless movement from the Dromore midfield of Nicole Laverty, Julie Anderson and Hannah Lilburn made sure that the Ballymoney defence were constantly under pressure. A lengthy pass from Ruth Ravey on the halfway line was picked up by Chloe Glover on the edge of the ‘D’ and she once again out classed her defender and with a level head took the ball around the keeper, dribbled the ball into an empty net and secured her hat trick!
For the final five minutes Dromore played close possession hockey and as the final whistle blew they were delighted to once again be going to the final!
Thanks to Nicola Clements for umpiring such an important fixture for the club.
