Bann Ladies 3XI had their first run out of 2015 playing a Garvey team whose form was unknown having conceded their home match earlier in the season.

Having not played or trained for several weeks due to poor weather conditions and the little matter of Christmas and the New Year, the team knew it would be challenging.

Bann started off well with good pressure on and off the ball against a solid Garvey defence and experienced mid field.

Garvey also had several chances and secured a couple of penalty corners with Ireland veteran Maggie Walker a key play-maker, however, the teams remained deadlocked at half time.

The second half continued in the same vein with both teams working hard and remaining fairly evenly matched.

Bann secured one of two corners, the first one unfortunately hitting a Bann player on the way through to the goal. Emma Leeper leaped into goals in the absence of the normal keeper.

Garvey broke through on several occasions and won a further two penalty corners which were well defended by Bann.

Play opened up more as the Bann forwards pushed higher up the pitch and Kate released several penetrating balls through to forward line.

In the dying minutes Punam picked up a ball which was punched into the circle and placed a pass across the front of goal which was narrowly deflected to the right of the post by Jayne.

All in all a game of missed chances for both teams but another point on the board.
