The last four standing in the Matchplay Championship
THERE are only four players remaining in the Club Matchplay Championship.
The quarter final results were as follows:
Ronnie Halliday beat Keith Steenson 2 and 1.
Jonathan Ward beat Seamus McGrath 3 and 2.
Will Dickson beat Neil Clydesdale 6 and 5.
Shane Bell beat Sean McGreevey 4 and 3.
You have to favour the low handicapper when it comes to matchplay but golf is notoriously unpredictable.
Ronnie Halliday will play Jonathan Ward in the first of the semi-finals. Jonathan is chasing the golfer of the year title and he knows that victory in the matchplay could very well clinch it for him. He knows too that Ronnie will be a tough opponent.
Will Dickson will play Shane Bell in the second semi-final and that too is a toss of a coin. Who would have predicted that Will would make it this far?
But he’s gaining in confidence with every round and he is looking forward to playing Shane. It may prove a step too far for Will but you never know!
One way or another, it’s going to be fun.
