The future is bright, the future is White
LAST weekend local tri-athlete Russell White secured his first overall win at the Muckno Mania Triathlon in Castleblaney.
This was a fantastic achievement as Russell, who is still only a junior athlete and completely new to the sport, beat over 260 athletes to claim the top prize as well as being named first junior.
Russell dominated the whole race leading from start to finish. He made the most of his of his strongest discipline and gained an early advantage, being first out of the water after the 750m open water swim.
Russell was very strong in the cycle, not only staying away from the other competitors, but he was able to put even more distance between himself and his nearest rival. Russell finished off with a superb run; recording the fastest split out of anyone in the field.
All of this accumulated in Russell winning convincingly with a considerable margin of over two and a half minutes between himself and second place.
It was a very impressive display from the local athlete who is improving with every race. He is an exciting talent that is being nurtured by Triathlon Ireland, and definitely a name to watch out for in the future.
