Seapatrick fight but get no reward against league leaders

Warrenpoint Town 2

Seapatrick 0

WARRENPOINT Town sit proudly at the top of Mid Ulster A undefeated in all league games this season.

Their first half display showed why they are there. They play with great confidence and composure and look so comfortable on the ball, although given their huge amount of possession they never really troubled the Seapatrick rearguard.

It was indeed a needless penalty that gave Warrenpoint their first goal. John Murphy bundled over Warrenpoint’s front man and he picked himself up, dusted himself down and slotted home from 12 yards.

Their second came courtesy of an 18 yard curling effort from the same player with just three minutes remaining in the first half, although he should have been closed down long before he got his shot away.

As the second half got under way Seapatrick were now playing with a new found confidence. They were now the team which was a lot more composed. They played their football on the ground and believed they could take the game to Warrenpoint. Long spells of the second period were played in the Warrenpoint half.

The Village were unlucky not to get a goal back when Chris McGrath’s effort was knocked out by the keeper and Steve Jones looping header was cleared of the line by Franco Trainor.

At the other end Phil Davidson cleared of the line as Warrenpoint were content to play on the counter attack. Paul Fearon had a great chance in the closing minutes. He had done all the hard work but his tame effort was hit straight at the keeper.

Seapatrick fought for every scrap right up until the final whistle and going on their second half performance it was difficult to tell who was sitting top of the league. Is this game the turning point in their season? All connected with Seapatrick certainly hope so because on this showing they proved what a good side they really are.

Team: Kris Fletcher, Phil Davidson, Aaron Buchanan, Mark McCallum, John Murphy, Stevie Jones, Damo Curley, Mark Watt, Steven Greene, Chris McGrath, Paul Fearon, Paul Rice.
