Quins hold Bann Seconds to a scoreless draw
BANBRIDGE Ladies Seconds faced Belfast Harlequins Fourths for the first time late into the season.
The home side had a few new names on the team sheet in the form of Rebekah Graham, Naomi Mathews and Hannah Hopkins.
The match started at high pace with Harlequins being quick to demonstrate that they had come to fight hard for a win. With a few players out of position Banbridge took slightly longer to settle than usual but during this time the defense of Jo-Anne Lyttle, Jill Mahaffey, Jessica Hassan and Sarah Dale where able to identify key players that Harlequins aimed to play their match through.
It became clear to the Banbridge girls forward play and creating breaks would be the best way to overcome the Harlequins defense. Knowing this, Joanna Palnoch in midfield and forwards Sarah Anderson, Nadene Black and Rosie Waddell worked hard to claim ground by taking on and beating Harlequins players.
The half time whistle stopped play at 0-0.
The Banbridge girls upped the ante in the second half, Jemma Lyle, Katie Uprichard and Ashleigh Mitchell battled hard to create and block in the middle of the park.
The Banbridge forward line managed to create some good chances in the second half, the most promising resulted inRebekah Graham throwing her self at the back post and was extremely unlucky to find the ball just out of reach.
At the other end of the pitch, the defense, in great form put in some excellent tackle and saw off several short corner efforts from the Belfast side.
Congratulations to player of the match Alannah Little who was outstanding in goals, keeping a clean sheet for the home side.
