Progression continues for U9s

BANBRIDGE Town U9s continued their development games in Brownstown on Saturday and came away with a draw and a win in two tough fixtures against Oxford and Lurgan Town.

In their first game Oxford started the brightest of the two teams and Banbridge had goalkeeper Kyle Bradford to thank for a couple of fine saves which kept the score 0-0.

Banbridge soon though got into their stride when the midfield trio of Patrick McGrath, Owen Wilson and Jack Murray started to dictate the midfield.

Midway through the first half Banbridge took the lead when Patrick McGrath found the net direct from a cornerkick but the lead was shortlived when Oxford found the net to make the score 1-1.

With both teams going for the win now it was an end to end game with both teams going close in the dying minutes but in the end a draw was a fair result.

Banbridge then took their good form into the second game against Lurgan and raced into an early two goal lead when Adam Hamilton helped himself to a brace only for Lurgan to pull one back straight from the kick-off.

Banbridge soon got their third though when another surging run from fullback Lee Whitten ended up with his shot being deflected to give the Lurgan keeper no chance.

The Juniors then quickly added number four with the goal of the game when a fine move involving the industrious Ryan Meara and the man of the match Patrick McGrath who skillfully beat two men then his fine pass found Adam Hamilton who raced clear of the defence to fire home for his hat trick.

Lurgan then finished strongly and got another goal to make it 4-2 but any attack after this was dealt with by Lee Whitten and the assured Calum Kermath in defence.

This was another good week for the young lads who keep continuing to do well in their development games.

Team: Kyle Bradford, Lee Whitten, Calum Kermath, Owen Wilson, Ryan Meara, Patrick McGrath, Adam Hamilton, Jack Murray
