Title race hotting up in NW League

BALLINREES had a vital 17-shot win at home to Boveedy, which earned them six points to the visitors one and kept them well on course for their first North West Division One title.

With defeats for nearest challengers Dunluce and third place Loughanreagh, Ballinrees are now 12.5 points clear at the top of the table.

Boveedy claimed a point in the first half when Stephen White beat Leslie McIntyre by three shots, but Jonathon Calvin replied for Ballinrees, defeating Doughie Morrow by four shots.

In the second half Ballinrees enjoyed two eight shots victories, Willie Calvin and Victor Millen defeating Alan Catherwood and Joe Moore respectively.

Dunluce's title ambitions took a severe knock with a shock grand slam defeat at home to Moneydig, who won on all four rinks, which earned them seven points in their effort to avoid relegation.

Alan McAleese edged out Bryan Smyth by one shot, while Trevor Workman won by 10 shots against Uel McKeeman, while in the second half Moneydig had two one shot victories, David Wright holding off the challenge of Harry Elliot and Brian McFetridge beating Alistair Kirkpatrick.

The Marian moved away from the relgation zone with a 23-shot home win over Loughanreagh, earning them six points to the visitors one.

In the first half, Sean McLean beat Alan Irwin by eight shots and James Martin beat Alistair Steele by four shots. After the break Brian McAlary had a comfortable 11-shot win over Edwin Irwin. Ian Ross rescued one point for Loughanreagh when he defeated John Rainey by two shots.

St Mary's had a good away win over Second Kilrea earning them 5.5 points to the home side's 1.5, which could prove very important in their effort to avoid relegation.
